hi khansaa,

in addition to the tips that daniel has given you, remember that IPv4 
and IPv6 have different ethertypes 
(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EtherType)

IPv4 = 0x0800
IPv6 = 0x86DD

so, if the device that you’re trying to monitor, can provide you with 
a way to reference a count of those ethertypes individually, that’s 
another trick you can use.

perhaps if you gave us a little more context as to what you’re trying 
to do, where, etc, we can give you additional support.
