[sdnog] DDNS for home lab

Hi all 

I'm building a small home lab that I need to access remotely sometimes. However, my public IP by the ISP is not static and keeps changing. 
I've been told that setting up Dynamic DNS (DDNS) can help me. but my understanding for the DDNS that it is usually used with DHCP to assign records dynamically, not sure how can this used in my case 

can someone explain the concept to me on how does it work or point me to good documentation
