i’m looking at one such message now, and the mail headers seem to 
imply that the mail was stuck inside google’s system for quite some 
time.
i’ve posted a smaller version of the headers without DKIM bits below, 
so it’s easier to read the timestamps.

#1 - sent:  08:44:28 +0400
#2 - accepted by google:  21:45:05 -0700  (note the day being reflected, 
as one day earlier)
[some delay]
#3 - passed to google-delivery server:  13:25:20 -0700 (note the day 
change)
#4 - passed to sdnog server:  22:25:20 +0200

maybe another good reason to run your own mail ;-)
